What To Do If You're In An Accident

If you're fortunate enough to have never been in an accident, you might be wondering what the right steps to take are if the time comes.

Here are the steps we suggest you take to protect yourself if you are in an accident:

  1. Stay calm

  2. Stay safe

  3. Call an ambulance if needed

  4. ALWAYS call the police, no matter how small the accident

  5. If the police are not dispatched, be sure to file an incident report

  6. Exchange insurance information with the other party

  7. Protect your identity; DO NOT let anyone take a photo of your driver's license

  8. Call your insurance agent

Photos to take at the scene:

  1. License plates

  2. Damage to all vehicles

  3. Landmarks

  4. Street signs

  5. Damage to any property and objects

Use these tips to make sure you protect yourself and help the claims process move smoother if you do end up filing a claim. It's hard to think clearly when an accident does happen, so we recommend writing these tips down and keeping it in your car with your insurance card so you can remember all the important things you will need.
